Q. Ninjas or pirates? (Answer!)
A. Pirates

Q. When do you play, including timezone? (Answer!)
A. When I can, basically. I try to play an hour or two in the early evening hours a few times during the week (or as time allows), and then play a bit more whenever I can on the weekends. I don't really have a set time when I always play. I'm in the Eastern timezone (USA).

Q. Where did you get your gaming names from? (Answer!)
A. The main one I use is "Jannick Grendel," and it just kind of came to me one day. I'm not sure where I got Jannick from to start with, but I thought it sounded kinda cool and could be versatile in both fantasy and sci-fi settings. I chose Grendel as the last name because I wrote about a million papers on Beowulf in college. On the rare occasion I use an alt, I'll usually use "Endyamon," which comes from the Marriage of Heaven and Hell albums by Virgin Steele. If I ever make a female alt (which I do every now and then just for fun), I often use "Emalaith," from the same source.

Q. Are you interested in working within the game industry? (Answer!)
A. It would be great, I think, but I'm a bit past the point in my life when I can make major life/career changes. Never say never, though, I suppose.

Q. Do you use voice chat? (Answer!)
A. Yes, but only when absolutely needed

Q. If you made your own game, what would it be like? (Answer!)
A. Fallout or Shadowrun. I think an MMORPG based in either setting (or one like it) would be great.

Q. If you could meet any game developer, who would it be? (Answer!)
A. <shrug>

Q. Do you feel relationships within games are meaningful? (Answer!)
A. Sure, they can be. There are several players I met in a guild while playing Everquest 2, and those in-game relationships have spanned over more than one game (and I hope will continue to last).

Q. What are the proper uses of tank guns and bubblegum? (Answer!)
A. Most of my initial thoughts on how to answer this are either dirty or cliche, so I'll have to get back to you on this one.

Q. What are your thoughts on roleplaying in games? (Answer!)
A. It's one of the main reasons I play MMORPGs, and I wish more people would do it. Some of the roleplay scenarios and encounters I have been involved in have been just as exciting and interesting as any scripted NPC quest or event in the game (if not more). It enhances the game beyond the mere game mechanics. As an example, probably my most memorable experience in a game to date is not of a raid, a quest, or getting some epic piece of equipment, but rather a roleplay experience with players in my guild and an "opposing" guild in Everquest 2 involving the rescue of a friend, the possession of a cursed item, a change in the appearance and personality of my character, and the roleplay stories/dialog that took place in forums to accompany the whole scenario. That's something the game developers can't deliver to you, no matter how good their game is.

Q. Have you ever had a romantic encounter with someone you met in a game? (Answer!)
A. No.

Q. What is the most overlooked or misunderstood game? (Answer!)
A. Nothing comes to mind at the moment.

Q. Other than your console or PC, what is the piece of hardware you can't live without? (Answer!)
A. My guitar and amplifier, I suppose.

Q. What sort of players annoy you the most? (Answer!)
A. The annoying kind.

Q. If you could bring any book, movie or comic to life in a game, which would you choose? (Answer!)
A. Lord of the Rings! Oh wait! We've got that!

Q. What music do you like to play games to? (Answer!)
A. Usually the game's music. The developers hopefully spent a lot of time and effort composing the music and putting it in the game, it's worth listening to.

Q. Have you ever had a memorable real-life meeting with other gamers? (Answer!)
A. Not that I can think of.

Q. How do you feel about playing characters of the opposite sex? (Answer!)
A. I don't see a problem with it, as long as you're not playing some weird, perverted headgame with the people you're playing with.

Q. What are your thoughts on player-made mods/addons for games? (Answer!)
A. Sometimes they really improve the UI of the game. I've used them in World of Warcraft and Everquest II.

Q. What do your characters and avatars usually look like? (Answer!)
A. It all depends on what the game will allow me to do. I have a pretty good idea what Jannick should look like, but I can adjust it to what the game allows for based on what I know his personality, attitude, and background should be.

Q. Do your quiz results on GamerDNA reflect your personality, and if not, what did it get wrong? (Answer!)
A. They did pretty well, although a simple quiz obviously can't get every detail right.

Q. Why do you join guilds or clans? (Answer!)
A. For roleplay, socializing, and having a place to focus my energies when I'm not just questing or whatever.

Q. Beside GamerDNA, what are your favorite websites? (Answer!)
A. <shrug>

Q. If you could cancel any online game, which would it be? (Answer!)
A. As long as people are enjoying it, keep it going. If you want to force me into a decision, does Second Life count as a game?

Q. What sort of tools (calculators, builders, spreadsheets, etc.) do you use to plan your characters? (Answer!)
A. I don't really. I approach my character from more of a roleplay perspective, and make my decisions based on that. I might occasionally use an online character builder to help plan out where I want my character to ultimately end up with that in mind, but that's it.

Q. What are the specs on your gaming rig? (Answer!)
A. They're decent, but slipping more and more behind with every passing minute. ;-)

Q. What experience do you have beta-testing games? (Answer!)
A. I've played the beta for Vanguard, Lord of the Rings, Tabula Rasa, and Hellgate: London.

Q. How many hours a week do you play? (Answer!)
A. 5-10

Q. What are your favorite tabletop (RPG, board, miniatures, etc.) games? (Answer!)
A. I haven't played any in forever, but back in the day, I dug D&D, Battletech, and Shadowrun.

Q. What is your first computer or video gaming memory? (Answer!)
A. West of House <br>You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. <br>There is a small mailbox here.

Q. What mods do you play with? (Answer!)
A. Currently, none.

Q. What is a feature you would like added to GamerDNA? (Answer!)
A. &lt;shrug&gt;

Q. How do you feel about selling virtual items for real money? (Do NOT advertise RMT services!) (Answer!)
A. I don't support it, but I wouldn't condemn anyone for doing it, either. As long as you're still playing your own character, then do whatever allows you to have fun with the game, I guess. Although, I'd say if you're having to buy gold or equipment with real-life money, the game you're playing may not be delivering the fun you're seeking, and you may want to invest your time and money elsewhere, but to each his own, I suppose. Obviously, paying other people to powerlevel your character is a whole other issue. That's just stupid.

Q. What are your most memorable achievements in a game? (Answer!)
A. Becoming the &quot;Special Forces General&quot; of the Shadow Slayers guild in Everquest II (Antonia Bayle). It wasn't long-lived, as real-life began tearing me away from the game more and more, but all of my experiences in that guild would be included in my &quot;most memorable.&quot;

Q. When you are not playing games, what do you do for fun? (Answer!)
A. Bicycle, play guitar, watch movies, listen to music, read, watch hockey.

Q. What do you love or hate about PVP? (Answer!)
A. Love? It's fun to play against an opponent that reacts very differently than a computer-generated enemy. There's also a lot of potential for some great roleplay elements, but those are rarely explored in the PvP setting, unfortunately. I think RvR is a lot more fun than just the gankfest that one-on-one PvP tends to degrade into.</p><p >Hate? &quot;1 pwnd u n00b!&quot; That pretty much somes it up, and, unfortunately, somes up the majority of my PvP experiences in MMORPGs. I'm still waiting for a really good one. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

Q. What is the most memorable flamewar you can remember? (Answer!)
A. Don't care.

Q. What question would you add to the Attitudes system? (Answer!)
A. &lt;shrug&gt;

Q. In real life, are you male or female? (Answer!)
A. Male
